Hair and Makeup Prep Instructions
Your hair and makeup will only be as good as the canvas you give me. I’m not a miracle worker- take care of your skin and hair, and when I work my beauty magic, it will that much better! Read below for my hair and makeup tips to prepare yourself to look and feel like your hottest self on your wedding day!
Hair
The amount of times I hear “I thought dirty hair was better!” makes me cringe.
PLEASE WASH YOUR HAIR! At least the day prior! If you wash morning of, please rough dry it, or make sure you have enough time to air dry.
Don’t use oils in your hair. The less product the better. I promise I have the right products to ensure longevity in the style you choose!
Don’t cut your bangs more than 2 weeks before your wedding day. I always bring my scissors and razor with me, so I can always touch up face framing if needed!
Trying to grow your hair long for your wedding? Use rosemary oil on your scalp a couple times a week leading up to the day! Saturate scalp, and let sit (perfect for those sleek bun days) or use a sleeping bonnet over this at night.
DO cut dead ends- even if you want the length, healthier hair is always sexier than those frizzy dry ends! Need a trim before the wedding? I got you!
Makeup
There is a lot you can do to prep your skin leading up to your wedding day or special event.
Derma-planing! You can have your esthetician do this- it will remove peach fuzz and dead skin cells- yay. You can also use a little facial razor- don’t worry the hair will NOT grow back thicker- that is a myth!
Having your face be SMOOTH and hair free will make your complexion look brighter and more even. Makeup will also go on more evenly, so there is less room for it to look patchy or thick later on.
Use a gentle exfoliator every other day (or even every day if it’s not too abrasive!). I love the micro-foliant by Dermalogica. If you use this, make sure you get it going in a good lather- you shouldn’t feel the particles rub on your skin and it should feel smooth.
If you do not exfoliate your skin, it will be like painting over sand paper. Exfoliate, moisturize, and take care of your skin!
*Pro-tip: Exfoliate your lips! I love the Fresh brown sugar lip scrub.
Moisturize! Even though I will prep your skin, please moisturize after washing your face. This helps balance your skin’s PH and the more hydrated your skin, the more we get that “lit from within” glow with your makeup! My go-to moisturizing products are the Boum-Boum Milk from Violette_FR and the C’est La Creme.
*Pro-tip: try a hydrating facial- no extractions please!
Do NOT try new things too close to the wedding. NO chemical peels, NO microdermabrasion, etc closer than 2-3 months from wedding!
If you want to try new things- try them at least 6 months in advance!
Don’t forget to double cleanse- especially if you are acne prone!
Tanning- I recommend the Isles of Paradise drops, or try getting a professional airbrush tan. If you’ve never done it before, try it at least a month before the wedding- maybe before your bachelorette party or bridal shower! Even if you do a “light” tan, it can just give you that extra healthy glow and even out skin tone.
xx
